Anish Sinha

I would like to suggest that the students first take a moment and find out what they want to do or which job provides them with the satisfaction of mind. Then, they can move forward by applying for those internships.

Anish Sinha introduces himself as a person who is the master of his own will. Initially, he was studying PCM in KNCS, Berhampur. He is now a 3rd-year student at a very reputed institution, that is St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata where he is pursuing a B.Com Honours Degree. While figuring out and exploring different opportunities in life, Anish chose to find an internship opportunity as a Campus Director in an online dating app, named, "Flutrr". So, based on his experience as an intern at Fluttr, Anish will share his experience and story with you who are looking forward to doing internships of a similar kind.

What exactly is “Flutrr”?

“Flutrr” stands to be India’s first multilingual dating app that brings together compatible people based on their passion. It is safe, free, and possesses all the premium-like features which make it very popular among teens who are very keen to find their match. Being ad-free as it is, "Flutrr" also saves the youngsters a great deal of time while using the app.

What drew your interest towards this internship at “Flutrr”?

This internship was suggested to me by my class mentor. The Marketing Head at “Flutrr” was Xavier’s alumni and was also a student of my class mentor. Being a teacher to the Marketing Director, our class mentor was keen on knowing if anyone among her students was looking for an internship then and thus she brought the idea of working with “Flutrr”. The concept of the app was very interesting and I wanted to learn the roles and responsibilities of a Campus Director which worked as the central reason for me to move forward with the idea to be an intern at this company.

What were the procedures that you had to undergo during the selection? Did you face any difficulty during the same?

No, I did not face any difficulty during the selection procedure as the entire process was very simple. Initially, the candidates were required to send their CV via email and there was an interview round, to test the basic skills required. But, since I had marketing as one of my major subjects and was referred for the position by my class mentor, my interview part was skipped. Thereby, after the selection procedure was over, the interns were required to sign a 3 months agreement for the internship period.

What was your title and responsibility in that internship?

For this internship, I was working under the title of Campus Director. My major responsibility is to establish the name of the dating app mainly on our college campus. The internship included the task of making “Flutrr” popular not only on our college campus but outside the campus too. During the same, we were needed to get a certain number of people signed up for our app. Apart from this, another role assigned to us during this internship is product development. We were meant to be the beta testers of the app. Under this, we were required to try out the features of the app before it is implemented in the final app. After that, we give suggestions to the production regarding the bugs/features.

What are the challenges you faced getting an internship?

I did not face any challenges as such while getting this internship. Even though I got selected for various internships and jobs during the same time, this internship seemed to be the best suited for me. Since I started my internship during partial lockdown was imposed, I was looking for a work-from-home paid internship and thus, “Flutrr” was the most suitable choice under the given circumstances.

What kind of skill set does the job of Campus Director require at “Flutrr”?

Since “Flutrr” encourages fresh minds and talents, it does not require anyone with a completely polished skillset. However, the basic requirements to fulfil the internship requirements are marketing, communication, and lead generation.

Your stipend/ salary range during the internship? What kind of benefits do you get?

The benefits during my internship were completely performance-based. As I stated earlier, it dealt with getting people signed up for the app. If during the internship a person got the highest sign-ups in a fortnight they were provided with some rewards such as Alexa, Google Mini, Smartwatches, etc. Along with the same, after the internship, certificates were also provided to the students.

What do you think is a decent stipend during the internship which would interest students? Can you give a range?

The salary range completely depends on the purpose that the students are serving during an internship. According to me, an average online internship should be paying its intern 4k-6k per month and if a student goes for an in-office internship, they should be receiving a stipend of around 8k-15k.

Why do you think an internship is important for students?

Yes, internships play a very important role in a student’s life. Internships are vital components in shaping a student’s career altogether. Since many students are clueless about the corporate field and internships give them basic experience and ideas about how things work. While doing an internship students learn how to generate leads, manage work, and how communicate with others professionally. Apart from this, the certificate provided during an internship also helps them to polish their CV for their future endeavours.

What suggestions can you give to fresh grads/students who want to apply for internships?

I would like to suggest that the students first take a moment and find out what they want to do or which job provides them with the satisfaction of mind. It can be anything related to their current courses like accounting, audit, digital marketing, business development, or anything related to their hobby or interests. It could be writing reviews, designing, making music compositions, jockeying, auditing, and even simple sales and marketing. Then, they can move forward by applying for those internships. By doing the same, they will be doing what they like and will also get to know how the corporate world works in the field that they’ve chosen. And at the end, I'll also suggest that it is always better if the students start small short internships from the beginning year of their college itself.
