Digital marketing is essential as it connects a business with its customers and is effective in all industries. Everyone should know how to promote their business on social media as it is a medium to connect with our audience.

Anaika Chhabra is a 10th-grade student, studying in Arya Vidya Mandir, Mumbai. She is interested in learning digital marketing. She was keen on exploring the marketing field so she decided to go ahead with doing an internship at the International Model United Nations (IMUN). Many students at this age have no clue what their passion is, so doing an internship is a great way to explore different fields and figure out what is your interests.

What is IMUN?

International Model United Nations (IMUN) is an educational simulation that allows people to learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. In this conference, students work as a representative of a country and solve global issues with other delegates from all over the world.

What makes you interested to do an internship at IMUN?

I was generally scrolling through Instagram during my summer vacation when I came across the IMUN page. I was always interested in debating and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to participate and interact with people from all over the world. Later on, I found out that they recently started digital marketing internships and wanted to give it a try. It seemed like both my interests were combined in this one internship and so I decided to go ahead with it.

The IMUN internship is fully-online and it is great because it allows for more flexibility. You can complete the internship while still being able to work and study. Another reason that makes me interested, is when you completed the internship, you will receive a certificate that is recognized by the United Nations. Which eventually can help you with your CV

What was your title and responsibility in that internship? Please elaborate by giving specific details about your day-to-day tasks.

I was working as a Campus Ambassador Intern and was given different tasks of social media promotions as well as getting IMUN Online Conference referrals. It was a 5-week internship. So basically, I had to promote IMUN Conferences among my peers as well as different schools/universities. Manage the registrations as well as explain to them how IMUN’s play an important role in learning various skills like Negotiation, Diplomacy and Leadership.

I had to convince people to participate in the conferences, explain to them the benefits they would get and why it would be worth the registration fee. We also had to post IMUN-related content which was given by them on 4 social media platforms to promote it.

Is there any selection procedure for this internship?

There is no selection procedure. They don’t reject any applicant as they believe that everyone deserves a platform to demonstrate their skills and boost their professional journey.

Challenges faced during the internship?

The challenge that I faced was persuading people to pay a fee for participating in the conferences. People wouldn’t pay unless they are convinced about the exposure they would get and develop skills like research, public speaking, debating, critical thinking and teamwork.

What are the benefits/incentives offered after the completion of this internship?

Participating in the conferences would keep us updated with current affairs, global issues and come up with ways to overcome these problems. IMUN’s are known for their quality, high standards, difficulty levels, and they are under the United Nations. If we have experience/taking part in it, it will become an asset when you apply for colleges/jobs. There is a significant weightage of extracurricular activities in applying for various jobs.
Performance-based rewards are also given. We will be given incentives on each referral (we will get paid per attendee) up to 50%. The incentives depend on the number of referrals you obtain in 5 weeks. A minimum of one referral is required for the certificate of internship.

Do you think this internship is recommended for students and why?

This internship is twofold, it does not only provide us with an opportunity to be a Campus Ambassador Intern but also allows us to participate in conferences. I would personally recommend students participate in this internship. I think everyone would benefit from it as it would help us improve our communication skills, marketing skills and public speaking skills. Once we come out of our comfort zone, there is no going back. Initially, I hesitated a little in participating myself but when I spoke in front of everyone, it boosted my confidence to a great extent. It is not about winning, just participating itself would give us a lot of knowledge and expose us to a different point of view from people around the world.

Furthermore, digital marketing is essential as it connects a business with its customers and is effective in all industries. Everyone should know how to promote their business on social media as it is a medium to connect with our audience.
